Rajnish Tiwari

Project Leader, Chances and Challenges of Offshoring R&D to India

Rajnish Tiwari is a Research Associate at Institute of Technology and Innovation Management (TIM) at Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH). Tiwari studied Business Administration at University of Hamburg in Germany, majoring in International Management and Business Informatics.

Currently pursuing a doctroal degree, Tiwari has held several responsible positions in private and public sector orginazations. His research is basically focused on the triangle of Globalization, Iinnovation and Indo-German cooperation. Tiwari's areas of specialization include:

  • Market-driven globalization of innovation

    - Offshoring of research and development (R&D)

    - Knowledge Processes Outsourcing

    - Innovation Systems at national, regional and sectoral level

    - Innovating for the "Bottom of the Pyramid"

    - Cross-cultural issues in Indo-German projects

  • Lead markets and their emergence in developing economies

  • Socio-economic developments in India

  • Emergence of Indian multinationals: Outward FDI by Indian firms

  • Barriers to innovation in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)

  • Mobile Commerce, especially in the field of financial services ('Mobile Banking')

Tiwari was awarded the "Market and Customer Orientation 2006" prize by Vodafone Foundation for Research for his study of Mobile Banking, which has meanwhile been published in co-authorship with Dr. Stephan Buse by the Hamburg University Press. Together with Dr. Buse he has published an edited volume "Perspektiven des Mobile Commerce in Deutschland: Grundlagen, Strategien, Kundenakzeptanz, Erfolgsfaktoren". Apart from these, Tiwari has published extensively on issues related to his research specialization and has delivered talks at various business, scientific and political avenues. His practice-oriented research has often found appreciation in the news media and business press.

Along with other institutional players such as Hamburg's state government, Chamber of Commerce and other organizations Tiwari has been actively involved in organizing India Weeks in Hamburg. In February 2010 Tiwari was invited to lead the Hamburg section of German-Indian Round Table (GIRT). Professionally, Tiwari is a member of the Strategic Management Society, Academy of International Business, and Academy of Management. Additionally, he is active in the Indo-German Society ("Deutsch-Indische Gesellschaft e.V.").
